Heavy Lifting Magnets

 

Like all of DocMagnet’s products, the Heavy Lifting Magnet Line uses permanent-electromagnetic technology. The controller is powered by a single phase of a 480V AC source and uses electricity only to turn the units on and off.
Heavy Lifting MagnetsThe heavy lifting magnet line comprises of 4 different model types. Each model is specifically designed and engineered to be suitable for a particular type of load. One of the biggest factors in determining which model is best suited for the application is the minimum thickness of the load that needs to be lifted. If the load does not meet the minimum thickness requirement, the lifter will not perform at full capacity, and if workpieces are stacked on top of one another, it could potentially lift up two pieces at once creating an unsafe working environment.

Furthermore, from the VX model to the HX model, the lifters increase in their magnetomotive force (MMF). MMF is the driving power behind all magnets; the greater the MMF in this situation, the better the lifter performs through an air gap. Therefore, as loads get more irregular or uneven, the greater MMF allows for consistent performance despite irregularities in the workpiece.

VX Lift

VX Lift

The VX Lift model is designed specifically for thin plate applications. Thin plates are especially difficult to handle magnetically. The magnetic force tends to leak through the top plate as the magnetic lifter tries to pick up the plates below. Traditionally this has been handled with a variable power feature or a method called inching where the operator gradually decreases the power of the magnet until the second and third sheets drop. This is an unsafe lifting condition as the magnet is now not operating at full power. The VX lift takes advantage of a small, round pole design in order to achieve a very low field height. With plates as thin as 3/16” the VX lift model can lift up one sheet at a time, with no dunnage, at full power.

TX Lift

TX Lift

The TX Lift model is a more economical lifting model designed specifically for a very common application where the user is lifting plates in the range of 7/16” to 1.25”. Designers and sales staff at DocMagnet noticed that this range of thicknesses was very popular in the Oil & Gas industry. As such, engineers have come up with the ideal, inexpensive solution for this range of plates. It features a tri-pole design to maximize efficiency and minimize cost. This is a very popular model for most applications.

QX Lift

QX Lift

The QX Lift model expands on the design of the TX Lift model and uses a specialized quint-pole design. This design effectively doubles the MMF of the unit, and allows for increased performance through air gaps. This model is ideal for heavier plates in the range of thicknesses 1” and up.

HX Lift

HX Lift

The HX Lift model is DocMagnet’s most powerful heavy lifting unit. It is designed for the most heavy duty applications. The square pole design with increased magnetic length provides the best performance through air gaps in its class. At a 0.040” (1mm) air gap, the lifter performs at 56% of its maximum capacity. Therefore, even with the most uneven of loads, the lifter still maintains a high safety factor. The HX lift model requires a minimum thickness of 2” to operate at full capacity.
